Actor's Agreement

This contract is for people who participate in our short sequence which means they are agreeing to be filmed and any other necessary parts they need to take part in.

Analysis

Before creating our title sequence for our own short film about thriller we watched and analysed two title openings in using media techniques Mise en scene, Camera work, Editing, Sound and Titles.
In effect to make me understand the media techniques i researched on two different
opening sequences which were Silence of Lambs and Butterfly Effects.

3.2.1 Deconstruction of the titles:
Each opening sequences i watched was five minutes long which i watched twice the first time i watched it through was basically to get familiar with the opening and to read the text through media terms and techniques. The title Silence of the Lambs was very simple it was presented in capital letters which gives us the effect of suspence.

In Butterfly Effect it also started with capital letters however when the title did appear their were butterflies flickering around the title to dhow that this text includes something about butterflies.

3.2.2 Deconstruction of the shot suquence:

3.2.2.1 Shot types and framing:
When Silence of the Lambs begins it is shot in a forest were their is a pan of the character running. There were loads of close up shots of the characters face which shows the reactions of the character. However there is tilt down of the forest to get a birdseye view which is far away form the actual place. In Butterfly Effect their is a close up of the text at the very begining which gives the affect od the what the film will most probably be about. Their is also a tilt down view and a pan shot of the guy who seems to be hiding. The last shot of the opening sequence is when their is a clos up of the letter the guy writes which gives the effect of what the film might be about.

3.2.2.2 Mise en scene:
The use of mise en scene in both of these sequences are very similar because they come under the genre thriller. However this technique i shown in a different way, in Silence of the Lambs the effect of the women running makes the audience feel something strange is about to happen. In Butterfly Effect the text automatically starts with some action of the guy breaking the door open to escape from the police, this makes the audience more engages and interested it makes then want to watch the film to come.

3.2.2.3 Lighting:
Im Silence of the Lambs the lighting didn't seem natural from time to time it the affect of that was the finsihed cut looked like it was shot in a studio rather then natural sun light. However in Butterfly Effect the lighting was used in a very good way and it did ont look fake at any time. The opening started very black nd dull whixh gradually turnt bright.

3.2.2.4 Sound:
In Silence of the Lambs their is alot of sound theire is dramatic music which goes with the women who is running however when she is running you can hear the footsteps through the background music which shows that the text wants the audience to feel there is something going to happen this also make a good effect when the women is breathless. Where as in Butterfly Effect their is one particular part where the guy grabs the pen and notebook to write a messeage this shows their is something which is goin to happen .

3.2.2.5 Editing:
Both of the texts have alot of editing been done to it in Silence of the Lambs there seems to be alot of shots the women running but the first five minutes doesn't really set the text up for you. However the lighting is very dull is doesn't feel like a bright extract this gives the effect of something happening next where as in Butterfly Effect the lighting starts very dark it gives the feeling that it seems like a dark misterious text however it switches to very bright which then gives the vibe that nothing is going to happen next.

3.2.3 Studio and Marketing:

3.2.3.1 Budget

  • The budget of the Silence of the Lambs is roughly $22 million dollars
  • The budget of the Butterfly Effect is roughly $13 million dollars

3.2.3.2 Studio, Director, stars and any other significant contributors:

Silence of the Lambs:

  • Director : Jonathan demme
  • Produce by: Kenneth Utt, Edward Saxon and Ron Bozman
  • starring: Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn and Ted Levine
  • Musi by: Howard Shore

Butterfly Effect:

  • Director: Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber
  • Starring: Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart, Kevin Schmidt and Melora Walters
  • Music by: Micheal Suby

3.2.3.3 Where this film is/ will be distributed:
Silence of the Lambs was distributed by Orion Pictures Corporation which is a American comany that produces movies.

Butterfly Effect was distributed by New Line Cinema which is one of the major American film studios it is also known as today as Warner Bros.

3.2.4 Audience:

3.2.4.1 Who is the target audience for this film?

The target audience for Butterfly Effect is 15 or over, this film attracts more male then women because it'sgot maore action adventage. However in Silence of the Lambs is based more for adults but women would perfer it mainly.

3.2.4.2 Three ways the Opening seqence addresses the target audience:

The opening of Silence of the Lambs attracts the audience to the women who is running which gives us a reason to think about why is she running what is happennig that the women is running.

However it also catched the audience by the footsteps and heaving breathing of the women which gives more dramatic affect.

In the opening of Butterfly Effect grabs the audience straight away with the action which make the audience want to watch on.

When the butterflies are flickering around the title i find that it is very eye catching.
